Setting a tranquil mood can be achieved through various means when it comes to decorating your space. Whether it be through your choice of colour palette, or opting for a spa-like rainfall showerhead, to transport you to the Amazon abyss.
In this blog, however, we'll be focusing solely on how shower lighting can drastically enhance your in-shower experience.
Lighting and electricals are renowned for being a risky combination. We spoke to our Co-Director, Leigh Price, to understand how bathroom lighting can be installed in a manner that ensures safety is prioritised.
Real Tiles & Bathrooms' Co-Director, Leigh Price says:
"My top piece of advice for installing lighting in bathrooms would be to ensure the lighting you purchase is rated highly enough to withstand the amount of water/steam it is subjected to.
Choosing non-bathroom-rated lighting fixtures for wet areas of the home, (e.g. a standard LED mirror or decorative wall lights) can be hazardous, even if they aren't directly exposed to water.
A quick Google search will show you the most up-to-date version of the "IET Wiring Regulations", which essentially divides each area of the bathroom into zones, and highlights the rating of lighting required for each area.
Lighting that faces direct exposure to water (such as inside the bath, shower or wet room zone) requires a minimum rating of IP67 and must be low voltage (12V max).
When it comes to lighting above the bath or shower, a minimum rating of IP44 is required. For 240V fittings, a 30ma RCD must also be used to protect the circuit."
